LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE

I have been practising Lymphatic drainage for the past 8 years, especially with elderly clients who have Oedema in their lower extremities, in particular feet and ankles.
However it’s much more common for me lately to be helping people post-surgery with lymphedema (build-up of lymph fluid), and more recently I have treated clients with lymphedema post cancer treatment.
Sometimes as a result of excess fluid, surgery or illness there can be a blockage in the lymph nodes or the lymphatic pathways, and Lymphatic Drainage, which is a very gentle technique, encourages the removal of blockages and moves lymph so it can be excreted naturally by the body.
It’s a technique that is now recommended by many surgeons and specialists and can be a positive and comforting part of rehabilitation.
I’ve included an overview below:
· Purpose of Lymphatic Drainage
o To stimulate the flow of lymph fluid throughout the body
o To help remove toxins, waste, and excess fluid from tissues
o To support immune system function by encouraging the movement of white blood cells
o To reduce swelling and inflammation
o To promote healing and tissue regeneration
· Different Applications of Lymphatic Drainage
o Managing lymphedema, particularly after cancer treatments or surgery
o Reducing post-surgical and post-trauma swelling
o Supporting treatment of chronic venous insufficiency
o Assisting in detoxification protocols
o Improving recovery after sports injuries
o Providing relief from certain chronic pain conditions
· Positive Benefits of Lymphatic Drainage
o Reduces swelling and fluid retention
o Boosts immune function
o Promotes detoxification and removal of metabolic waste
o Enhances relaxation and reduces stress
o Improves circulation and skin appearance
o Can help manage symptoms of chronic conditions like fibromyalgia and arthritis
o Speeds up healing from injuries or surgery
Supports overall well-being
